Albert Edgar Berry was born on December 28, 1881 in Etowah County Alabama. Albert died om May 23, 1964. He and his first wife are buried at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery, Henry County, Georgia. Albert Edgar Berry and Ella Claudia Dorton were married on the 23 January 1905. She was born February 2, 1880 and died February 15 1916.
In 1910, Albert Edgar, his wife Ella Claudia, and his two children, Eunice and William were living in Muskogee County, GA next to Jesse Lee Berry.William Lamar Berry was born in Henry county in 1910. There may be two possibilities His mother may have gone back home to Henry County to have her baby or William Lamar Berry was born before the family moved to Muscogee, Georgia Eunice Mary, went by the name Mary in the 1920 and 1930 census, the oldest child, Eunice, being born in 1906 and William in 1908. Both children’s ages are confirmed in the 1910 census.

- Eddie Clandia Berry was born August 23 1913 and died on April 29, 1916. She is buried in the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery in Henry County Georgia. Both of her parents are buried in the same cemetery.
Ella Claudia Dorton Berry died on February 15th 1916.

Sometimes after 1910, Albert Edgar Berry and his family migrated back to Henry County, GA. Ella Berry was 7 in the 1920 census. Albert Edgar was living in Henry County in 1918 when he registered for the Draft.
On October 15th 1917 Albert Edgar Berry apparently Married to Minnie Lawson but this marriage must not have lasted very long.
The marriage licenses below dated October 15 1917 and the draft registration dated September 12, 1918 answers a long standing question. Ella Claudia died on February 16th 1916. Albert’s draft card states he is married. Although it says Spouse: Mrs.. A.E. Berry,.The family was puzzled because they all believed he was a Widow at the time Albert registered for the draft
During World War I there were three registrations:
1. The first, on June 5, 1917, was for all men between the ages of 21 and 31.
2. The second, on June 5, 1918, registered those who attained age 21 after June 5, 1917. (A supplemental registration was held on August 24, 1918 for those becoming 21 years old after June 5, 1918. This was included in the second registration.)
3. The third registration was held on September 12, 1918 for men aged 18 through 45.
If Albert Edgar Berry was born in 1881 and is listed on his draft card as age 36 then he was registered in the third Draft Call because his age was between 18 and 45.

It seems Albert Edgar Berry lived in the same area as when he registered for the draft; Luella, Henry County, GA. This town is approximately 12 miles from Griffin, GA. Griffin is in Spalding County where Edgar Berry’s grandson,William Lamar Berry, met, married Nannie (Verna) Mitchell and started his family
1930 Columbus, Muscogee, Georgia Census
Jesse met her in that area and moved southwest to the Columbus, GA area sometimes afterwards. A few years later, William Lamare Berry started to work in the Highland Mills in Griffin and began his career in the textile industry. I am sure he met my mother at that time since her father and brother also worked there. He shows up in the 1930 census with Ella Claude Berry and their first son William Jr, living with her parents Thomas and Allie Bell Mitchell. Close by is a Clomer G. Berry family. I am not sure where they are related, but I suspect they are in some way. Also some familiar names besides the Mitchells and Berrys are the Hightowers and Coggins (Scoggins). All from the Orange County, NC area also. I am sure there are others, too.
In the 1930 census, Nancy Ann Henry Berry, Jesse Lee’s wife is living in Griffin, Spalding, GA with her daughter Florence Kelly age 53 and her mother, Mary Ann Mitchell Wiggins age 94 who lived to be a bit over 100.
In the 1920 census Albert was living as a widower in Henry County Georgia with his three children, Mary Eunice (14), William (11), and Ella (7). and Madelle Williams as a servant. Albert Edgar and Maydelle had two children after the 1820 census was enumerated. Albert Lee Berry (Picture on the left) was born in Columbus Georgia on March 17 1921 and died in Racine Wisconsin on March 28 2008. and Ruby was born in 1923. .

It was difficult finding Albert Edgar Berry in 1920 because he was listed as Albert Reny. Albert and Madelle Berry’s and their two children, Albert Lee and Ruby were located in Columbus Georgia in 1930. Madelle Berry is listed as head of the family and has two boarders living with them. I also located Mary (Eunice) and Ella Mae in 1930. Mary is married to Fred Stirk and is living with with his family along with her sister Ella Mae.
Albert Edgar Berry has not been located in any 1930 or 1940 census. He did show up in the 1931 Columbus Georgia City Directory above and the 1941 Atlanta Georgia Directory below.
