                       ROBERT PICKLE                                 SARAH ALDRIDGE PICKLE

Robert Pickle was born in 1801 in Orange County North Carolina and he died in Mississippi on July 24th 1881.                                                                                                              NOTE: see Robert Pickles grave marker picture on this page

Robert Pickle was the 2nd child of Jacob and Catherine Berry Pickle. Robert married Sarah Aldridge, (Born in 1806 in North Carolina) daughter of Peter Aldridge and Judith Waggoner. Robert Pickle and Sarah Aldridge were married 21 September 1824 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It was interesting to note that Robert Berry Jr. was the bondsman for the marriage of Peter Aldridge and Judith Waggoner. These families were well known to each other in Orange County, North Carolina.

Catherine Berry’s brother George Berry married Susan Aldridge an older sister of Robert Pickle’s wife Sarah Aldridge. All of Robert Berry Jr.’s family removed to Fayette County Alabama in the early 1820’s. It is very likely that Jacob and Catherine Pickle lived for a few years in Fayette County Georgia before her Father and the rest of Catherine’s family joined them. Cathrine Berry Pickle had first cousins living in Fayette County, Georgia. Mary Camp’s children John Camp, Robert Berry Camp, Starling Camp, and Sarah Camp Humphries signed a power of attourney in Fayette County Georgia on February 16, 1815. We know that Jacob and Cathrine had a son born in Georgia in 1813. Her brother, George Berry, had a son (John Berry) born in Orange County, North Carolina, in 1815. I do not think Robert Berry Jr and the rest of the family came to Alabama until about 1822.

It was probably sometime after Robert Berry Jr’s mother died before the rest of his family left Orange County.

This is all that remains of Robert and Sarah Aldridge Pickles’s home. The cabin was somewhat larger than what you see now. Only two rooms are left with the roof still intact and these were last used to to store cattle feed. The rest of the home has fallen down. There are signs of out buildings on the place but none of the buildings are standing. The old road leading up to the cabin has not been used in several years. Trees have grown up in the road.
