She was born April 4, 1796 in Orange County, North Carolina and died April 16, 1870 in Jonesboro, Clayton County, Georgia. William Abraham Cates was born Aug 2, 1798 in Orange County, North Carolina, and died March 28, 1871 in Jonesboro, Clayton County, Georgia.
William A. Cates was the son of Robert M. Cates, Jr.and Mary Elinor Cates both born in Orange County, North Carolina and moved to Gwinnett County, Georgia.
Sarah and William had 10 children, the first three being born in North Carolina.
Note: I am aware that the spelling of Cate/Cates causes concern. This is one of those names that was spelled both ways but Cate in Orange County, North Carolina, was most likely correct.
Note: Henry County, Clayton County, and Fayette County had a number of border changes.

- Alfred Cates b Nov 24, 1818 married Dec 18, 1838 in Henry County, Georgia Mary Ann Nolen born 1824 in South Carolina. They were the parents of 12 children, At some point after children were born Alfred and Mary Ann Nolan moved to Cass County, Texas. Alfred Cates died there in 1873. Mary Ann Nolen died in 1877 in Hickory Grove, Cass County, Texas.
- Romulus Sanders Cates was born Sept 21, 1819 in Orange County, North Carolina, and married Feb 27, 1840 in Henry County to Lucinda E. Reeves born Jan 10, 1822 in Georgia. They had 12 children all born in Georgia. They moved to Moreland, Winston Co, Alabama and Romulus Cates died there Jan 2, 1896. Lucinda died in May 11, 1892 in Tallapoosa, Haralson County, Georgia. She was the daughter of Isaac Newton Reeves, Sr.
- Mary Poly Cates born Jan 10, 1822 in North Carolina married James Alexander Walton in 1848. She had two sons by him. James T. Cates and Alexander Cates. Mary died after 1880.
- Isaac A. Cates born Dec. 27, 1823 in Henry County, Georgia married Oct 20, 1844 in Clayton County, Georgia Serena Crow born Mar 20, 1828 in Henry County, Georgia. They had 11 children. Isaac Cates died Feb 8, 1891 in Ellenwood, Clayton County, Georgia. Serena Crow died Jul. 27, 1902 in Clayton County, Georgia.
- Elizabeth J. Cates born Dec 23, 1828 in Henry County, Georgia and married Jan. 31, 1854 to Joshua M. Berry born in Orange County, North Carolina. They had 6 children. Joshua M. Berry, son of David J. Berry would have been her Uncle. She was the daughter of William Abraham Cates and Sarah Berry.
- Elander Cates was born Nov. 26, 1829 in Henry County, Georgia and married about 1849 G. C. Baker.
- Sarah E. Cates was born Nov 16, 1831 in North Carolina and married Dec 12, 1859 in Henry County, Georgia Robert L. Hicks. He was born 1822 in North Carolina and died after 1880. Sarah died Jan 13, 1894 in Clayton County, Georgia. They had one child.
- Norisa Martha Cates was born May 22, 1833 in Henry County, Georgia, and died June 29, 1859 in Clayton County, Georgia.
- Lucinda Cates was born April 2, 1835 in Henry County, Georgia and married about 1855 Dewry L. Silvey born 1825. He died about 1860. They had 3 children.
- Martha Cates was born May 20, 1837 and married Dec 12, 1854 to Miles N. Hunt. She died June 29, 1859 Clayton County, Georgia.Miles date on his tombstone is June 29, year unreadable. They had 3 children.
